The sixth collaboration between Tim Burton and Johnny Depp hasn't disappointed me. You get everything you expect from these two guys. The cinematography is classic Tim Burton, dark and gothic. It's presented in pastel colour, bordering on colourised black and white, and probably for two reasons: firstly, to emphasise the emptiness of colour in the title character's life (a flashback to a better time is shown in more or less full colour). Secondly, it gives all of the blood, which is very reminiscent of the "Kensington Gore" favoured by Hammer Studios, extra boldness - no colour is spared on the blood, and there really is a lot of blood in this film. Those who don't like the gore would be advised to stay away.
From Johnny. we get a vision of somebody intrinsically evil, probably the most malignant character he's ever played, and such is Depp's versatitlity that he seems to slip into the role easily. His cockney accent has improved since From Hell, and in that's not all his voice offers - His singing really isn't bad, despite what he might have though of it in the past. The songs do add a little somthing extra to the film, as they really should in a musical, which is certainly a rare beast in modern cinema.
The supporting cast includes Helena Bonham-Carter, Alan Rickman (who can also sing rather well), and Sacha Baron Cohen, of Ali G/Borat fame, though the relative unknowns in the cast are worthy accompaniment.

I have to disagree with you oddbodd, Alan Rickman's voice is good but JD's voice is excellent, the songs he sings just get better and better as the movie progresses, this is probably just a coincidence as I cant have seen them shooting and recording the songs in chronological order Any hoo JD sounds a lot like David Bowie.
My only criticism of the movie is the certificate, I would have loved it to be a U, just to see the kids reactions
By the virtue of winning some stuff in a raffle at work yesterday, I've been able to spend the last two nights with Johnny Depp (figuratively speaking, unfortunately) and a nice bottle of wine. At this moment, a good few sheets to the wind, I'm listening to the ST soundtrack. Without the Beauty of Johnny to behold, and indeed to distract, the voices of both Alan Rickman and JD are wonderful to hear - particularly Rickman's. Unique, rough and dark.

Alan Rickman's voice is good but JD's voice is excellent, the songs he sings just get better and better as the movie progresses, this is probably just a coincidence as I cant have seen them shooting and recording the songs in chronological order
