An American Werewolf in London

Pehaps one of the best horror films in recent years. Excellent effects, make-up, story and the odd jumpy bit and humour, and we also see Jenny Agutter in a nurse's uniform. Nice.

The story begins on the Yorkshire Moors, where two american backpackers end up in a local pub to keep warm. Realising that they aren't welcome, they leave, being warned to stay on the roads. Being young, American and men, they think they know everything and soon stray from the roads. it's not long before they become Winalot for a Werewolf. One is killed, but the other, David, wakes up three weeks later in hospital.

His friend who died visits him, with some stuuningly gory injuries, and warns him that he'll become a werwolf. This leaves David to doubt his sanity, though he soon leaves the hospital and moves in with his nurse, Jenny Agutter.

Eventually, the full moon confirms his worst fears, and out Lycanthropic friend is soon causing havoc all over the capital. The transformation scenes are tremendous, even if they do have echoes of Manimal.

Certainly one of the better films of the werewolf genre, and it even makes references to Universal's The Wolf-Man, which began the whole genre.
Carl B Harrison

Was just thinking about this movie today as I was watching Michael Jackson's Thriller Video and John Landis directed that as well as An American Werewolf in London and Rick Backer did the make-up special effects. for both the movie and the Video Very Happy If everyone didn't already know that Wink
