Thanks, I been waiting for this for a long time.

Out of interest there's a Babylon 5 3d model available for download, this model is the best you will see im sure.

Take a look at the download page. http://b5cgi.firstones.com/

There are many ships available by just searching around.

Now one of the nicest setups for immediate realtime use must be the setup using Celestia a realtime space simulater, although many popular real and sci-fi ships are available, not just B5.

Celestia: http://www.shatters.net/celestia/

and the B5 ships here: http://www.celestiamotherlode.net/catalog/fic_babylon5.php

You need to download the main B5 ship as a starting point but you then just add the other ships in the correct directory and they will be correctly placed then stills or flyby animations can be produced, in real time and then saved as an anim.

Heres a link of two tests I tried, although not B5 its based on the flight path of Voyager 1 & 2 passing Saturn, approx lasting 40seconds that should really last around 24 hours. It should show you the potential of Celestia. These are rendered in realtime

edit:

Just to add..

I found this similarity a while ago and I did post this elsewhere, just in case you seen it posted before but it is interesting for a B5 fan I think.

This was an old Spectrum/Commodore 64 game from 1986ish..

Was JMS influenced in anyway?

It just hit me that it was so much PSI Corp with the name and emblem, then the 5 on the end just capped it.. I suppose you could add the trading bit as that what B5 was also known for, I must try to play this game and pick up any other clues that might be in there.

Hey TNC, sorry mate your wrong  It was DS9 that copied (ripped off)  the B5 way of doing things, its a known fact. Look at Star Trek before B5 and you will see nothing in comparison not even a hint of an arc, well not more than a five year mission, then the studio seen B5 working and thats why maybe DS9 got better near the end, although rumour has it that the B5 crew did ask for help from the DS9 crew in the begining, they were at least more experienced.

So even when B5 got the Whitestar, what came next? DS9 Defiant.. ohh bugger.

You could take the space element out of B5 and you would still have a watchable show, be it a medical, Religious or thriller. There was always a strong performance from lesser characters and their stories were always worth watching.

I admit the arc was lost around season 4 as opposed to season 5 which is where it should have finished but it did have a great story to tell, $*** it is not, neither is DS9 but I prefer B5.

BTW I enjoyed "The Lost Tales" done very cheaply by the looks of it but a worthy addition to the series lost moments. Hope we get another.

What!!!  That is Blaspheme! Deep Sleep, I mean Deep Space Nine is rubbish in comparason.  Have to agree with H on this.  B5 was a good series in its day.  Like RDEs said DS9 copied off B5.  I didn't like DS9 but I know others did.  Only liked TNG and Voyager in the Trek series.

tanks 4 tat RDE. i was told DS9 cam 1st. wel it DS9 wil b an f**** improvment. sory 2 dis it 4 thos tat f*** lik it butt B5 I thot was f*** s***. The grafics wer f*** s****, tre actin, and bad sets. wached until haf of s2 then switch of wen i DS9.
Robert DeNiro's Eyes

Well TNC 2,  I see your set in your ways, so nothing I say will change your mind Very Happy

Once years ago, someone said to me that the graphics were worse than OST from 1969.. But honestly nothing touched them for years, they were lightyears ahead of anything on TV, the only thing that ever blighted the fighting scenes were that they were always over far too quickly. I believe some of the graphic artists went on too Voyager much later on.

The acting in my opinion was first class, Londo, G'kar and Sheridan, always done with passion. Lesser characters such as Vir Coto were equally brilliant.

Bad sets? yea they looked cheaper than ST, full of crepe paper and lights I think and were reused over and over again but thet always worked in a less is more sort of way and gave it its own style I think.

Yes Im A B5 fanboy and only a OST fan boy, but like you I will never change my opinions.
hisomuhito

Just want to say that I agree with everything RDE has said and add the following:

He has already commented on its story arc. This had originally been  plotted out to cover the whole 5 years, with each series building on the next like chapters in a book. The only other sci-fi series I can think of which has even come close to doing anything like that is the new series of Battlestar Galactica. True many more series now include story arcs but most of them only tend to cover at most a single series and seem to be made it up as they go along.

B5 was also the first major TV series to use CGI extensively, proving to the rest of the industry that the technology had progressed to the point where is was cost effective enough to be used with a TV budget. When you take into account the budget and technology they used at the time I personally think they did an amazing job. RDE also is correct about the guys who worked on the first 3 series of B5 went onto do work on Voyager and Enterprise.

These two things alone have had a major impact on Sci-Fi and mainstream TV which has only come about since B5 proved it could be done.

Oh one last thing, Londo and G'kar rule!
hisomuhito

Now the writer's strike is over it looks like there's more B5 on the way Very Happy

I've still yet to see first set of The Lost Tales!

Brilliant, just what we fans of the series need.

I urge you to give Lost Tales a viewing, production is not high but I do like the personal touch it gives the three stories.
