Burton on BurtonBurton on Burton (Edited by Mark Salisbury), foreword by Johnny DeppThis is a book of interviews with Tim Burton that covers all of his films, right down to the shorts, Victor, Frankenweenie and Hansel and Gretel. It's quite invaluable both in terms of his history and also how he feels about his work - he seems to talk about his emotions regarding his works quite a lot. It gives an excellent insight into his own life and how it parallels with the films he's created. It has a good deal of pictures, most notably sketches that he's done to help with the designs of films - and it's amazing how well his sketches for The Nightmare Before Christmas and The Corpse Bride have been realised by the model makers. The sketches themselves betray an air of Quentin Blake - the guy who used to do the illustrations for Roald Dahl's children's books. Quite fitting then, that Burton has worked on both James and the Giant Peach and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. It actually has two forewords by Johnny Depp, as this is a revised edition, updated as far as The Corpse Bride. The book is part of a similar series of interview books on directors - and there's quite a few of them, from the really famous like Hitchcock to lesser known foreign directors such as Pedro Almadovar.
