Creature Features

I'm getting exciteder and exciteder by the day waiting for Snakes on a Plane to come out. It's probably not going to get the Best Picture Oscar, but I love these types of films, probably 'cos it's the animals getting their own back on humans (who's fault it often is).

My question is - which is your favourite? And what creatures would you like to see terrorising a sleepy village?

These are some of the ones I like best.

King Kong: The original 1933 version, with the gorgeous Fay Wray. The clunky animation of Kong and the Dinosaur would be nowhere near as much fun if it was CGI.

Jaws: Steven Spielberg's classic. Great story, great cast, and even spawned one of those Orange Film Board adverts.

Piranha: I used to watch this religiously as a kid. Typical of the genre, but great fun. And gory.

Them!: Black and White film with giant rampaging ants.

It Came From Beneath The Sea: Black and White film with giant rampaging octopus.

Arachnophobia: My favourite of them all. Spiders everywhere. And they were real, as well, unlike many of the recent B-movies and that dodgy Eight-Legged Freaks. Some of the spiders even had their own costumes.

There's loads of them out there..and some good books as well. John Godey's 1978 novel The Snake is a fantastic example.

For once, I agree with you. Exciteder isn't a word. I was just sort of paraphrasing Lewis Carroll's, "curioser and curioser" line from Alice's Adventure in Wonderland.

There's lots I like as well. Eight Legged Freaks was OK. They Nest, not so good. Probably like Jaws and Pirahna best. However, Alligator was a good film too.

Oddbodd being caught out by TNC, a bit embarrassing?

Like I expected everyone to think it was a real word?
