Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver SurferFantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer (2007)
I've always been a big fan Of the Fantastic Four and when I heard whats in store for the four in the next movie, I was super delighted, as the movies are following a simlar path to the comics and that suits me. Any hoo (Reed) the movie plot line (no pun intended) and see whats going to happen next I guarantee it's going to be excellent.
Plot Outline: The Fantastic Four learn that they aren't the only super-powered beings in the universe when they square off against the power Silver Surfer and the planet-eating Galactus ....sound good
Marvel's first family of superheroes, The Fantastic Four, meets their greatest challenge yet in FANTASTIC FOUR AND THE SILVER SURFER as the enigmatic, intergalactic herald, The Silver Surfer, comes to Earth to prepare it for destruction. As the Silver Surfer races around the globe wreaking havoc, Reed, Sue, Johnny and Ben must unravel the mystery of the Silver Surfer and confront the surprising return of their mortal enemy, Dr. Doom, before all hope is lost.
Hot of the press... Ive always wanted to say that, making of pics from: Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer, obviously the man in green is the Silver Surfer and what he's standing on must be his board, god I'm good

20th Century Fox has released the first image of the shiny character from Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer
Computer-generated imagery techniques similar to those used to create Gollum in The Lord of the Rings, the slippery Surfer, voiced by Doug Jones, "will look somewhere between gun metal and fluid metallics so you can see the body motion, the breathing, the muscle tone, the mood," says Marvel Studios CEO Avi Arad.
After striking a deal with the evil Galactus to save his planet, the once-human Surfer wreaks havoc throughout the cosmos. "He is a highly emotional being, trapped inside fluid metal.

Forgive me if I don't share your enthusiasm, Carl. Another excuse for bog-standard easy CGI. Give me the Submariner any day.
I was annoyed enough by the first movie not being all it promised - and by having a pouty bint like Jessica Alba in the role of Sue Storm. After Spiderman, Fantastic Four is my favourite of the superhero genre, so maybe I'm wanting too much - but if Spidermand can live up to my expectations, so can this.

Gotta admit the silver surfer looks like the T1000 on a surf board. Not exactly cutting edge or original going by what you see in that clip.

You can tell you are both just punters and not the hard working film makers, you just don't get it.

I don't know much about film-making, but I know what I like

Firstly because the Silver Surfer happens to look like the T1000 isn't his fault, the Silver Surfer has looked like that since the 60s and it wouldn't be the Silver Surfer if he changed how he looks, cos he just looks like that the fazing texture is emphasising his cosmic abilities cos thats what the Silver Surfer is all about.
Being serious here
My main concern though is, and it's a concern now generating through the industry, and in every university that produces CGI and that's, people and in some cases what badly advised students just expect. Just expect means, I've got access to this hardware and software so it should just do what I say, it should and it doesn't. The making of's, on DVD and programs are now trying to emphasise, just because they have this technology they have to work probably 10 times harder than they did before and investors who know nothing about producing CGI want it cheeper, faster but (better) than anyone else and unless you've got a limetless budget and time it's going to get harder and more difficult. The line has to be drawn and if the limit exseeds that line, like some movies have the luxury to do what you want becomes achievable.
I quote Ian Hunter, an interview in Cinefex the special effects mag.
Here's the problem.
The studios used to be run by people who knew how to make movies. But when movies took off in the 70s and became these amazing profit centers, big corporations decided to get into the movie business, So now we have middle managers reporting to bigger bosses, and they are under pressure to make the product for less. They cut preproduction and postproduction, because in the corporate world, they don't understand what preproduction and postproduction mean to a movie. They just want production, because production equals product. So they go right to shooting, without a finished script. They get something shot, then they go to post - which has also bbeen cut short - and try to assemble it, Of course, the corporations still want all the bells and whistles in the effects - but they don't give you enough time to do it.

Back to me.... this and many other aspects of movie making are so apparent to me, it's like breathing. So when people just make a statement based on a hungry consumuable want, I like many people in the industry, see the real picture, we don't blame the punters for this it's just down to a lack of not knowing what's really going on.

Carl, while I don't profess to know about the movie making industry as you I do have a fair idea of the effect the "suits" is having on it. You've just got to look at the amount of dross being kicked out of hollywood every year. The bean counters are too scared to risk movie on new innovative stories so we keep getting tired old tried and tested formulaic nonsense. Occasionally something a bit different comes along but that is getting much more rare.
In response to my T1000 comment. I understand thats how the silver surfer is supposed to look. What I was really commenting on is how he moves. Going by that clip everything is all very smooth and fluid much like the movements of the T1000. I know its all motion captured but something about it just doesn't look natural. Saw happy feet the other day, and there is a point in it where they have people come into the story. Being a CGI cartoon I was curious to see how well they did the people and when I first saw them I was amazed as they were so lifelike. Then after watching them I noticed the movements were too real and realised they were actually real people.
Can't put my finger on it but when it comes to CGI people its always the movement that gives them away.

The new trailer at the cinema gives me goose bumps, can't wait to see what Galactus looks like.
Finally all my childhood imagining what Spidey and The Fantastic Four would look like and do is becoming a reality.

Well I'm off to see it today and I hope Galactus is going to be in it. I've heard rumours that he's in the next movie ???? hope not, as whats the point, everyone knows that the SS picks planets for him to devour and that's the scary thing that, there is this obnipotent force following him and absorbing all the planets resources without mercy...just have to see today...watch this space.

This is not a review, I did love the film but I'm just continuing where I left off regarding Galactus.
Galactus....Well he was and he wasn't
The machinery that devours the planets was in the movie (but) Galactus himself was not... So the rumours might be correct about him being in the next movie .. because, there was a story that ran for a long time in Marvel and it was about when Galactus had depleted nearly all of his power and he was just surviving and building up his strength slowly ... Now this could be a why they could bring him into the story and keep the budget down . Obviously if you have seen the very end, as the credits start you'll know without giving the game away that the cosmic power is continuing and Galactus is even more powerful than the SS ...you get my thinking, although they still could just call it a finish with the Galactus thing and just completely move on by giving the SS his own movie and introducing Prince Namor the Sub-Mariner into the equation.... it would fit in with the global warming and us The Humans wasting all earths resources who knows, pop back in a couple of years and find out
