Iron ManMarvel Studios announced in April 2006 that it is producing the Iron Man movie with director Jon Favreau and a script by Arthur Marcum and Matt Holloway with a planned release date of May 2, 2008. The film will be distributed by Paramount Pictures.
On July 22, 2006 at the San Diego Comic-Con, Favreau confirmed that the villain for the upcoming film would be the Mandarin. He also announced that, "The suit will be more like a weapons platform than a flying suit – more of a War Machine-feel to it."
On September 28, 2006, the website Ain't It Cool News reported Iron Man would be played by Robert Downey Jr.
Terrence Howard has also signed on to play Jim Rhodes, who later becomes War Machine.
Jeff Bridges has also signed up to play the part of Obadiah Stane (a.k.a., Iron Monger).
On January 17, 2007, CNN reported Gwyneth Paltrow would play Virginia "Pepper" Potts.
Principal photography for the film began on March 12, 2007 in Los Angeles, California
Iron Man director Jon Favreau cleared up on his MySpace page for the movie who worked on the Mark III armor:
The suit was designed by an artist named Phil Saunders who collaborated with Adi Granov based on the comic art of Granov. It evolved over many months and then was brought to Winston Studios to refine the design in order to build it as a working practical costume. Winston modeled and then fabricated the actual suit. It is difficult to identify a single person as the designer because they each contributed to the final design. The EW article correctly stated, however, that the suit was built by Winston. I hope this helps.
