Maybe I'll watch it tonight.

Cool. What do you like about Carry on Screaming?

I like it, it's just not one of my favorites.

Um, H, I haven't. Spiders have 8 legs. Insects have 6. Rats have 4. From that perspective, you've made the same numerical mistake that Relic made all those years ago, and which he's never been allowed to forget.

But I shan't go into that just now.

Hai so desu.

Its supposed to say something like "does everyone understand Japanese?"
Minsan = everyone

wa is just the topic marker. Indicating that minsan (everyone) is the topic of the sentence. Its sometimes described as meaning "as for" so that sentence could read as "as for everyone, do they understand Japanese"

Ok, here's another one. You'll need a Japanese font to read it tho.

Ok, in romanji its:

dare demo kore o yomo koto ga dekimasu ka.

Do that help at all?

Which books are you using to learn? I'd recoommned "Japanese for busy people" its really straight forward and laid out well. Also goes at a nice pace.

Also regarding the written language, its worth you trying to learn Hiragana. Once you've got that do Katakana. I'd leave the Kanji for a while yet. Most decent text books include hiragana and katakana charts. If you don't have one I've got some I can send you.

Ok 'The monkey is in the tree'...now you could always go to a Zoo and find out where the monkeys hang out Laughing .....dam that was a really bad joke Embarassed Twisted Evil

I had to use http://babelfish.altavista.com for that translation. Very Happy

Nope this is all I can figure out: Confused

(anyone / anybody / whoever) this

I've left my books at work, oh well..But I've found a good website:

http://www.animelab.com/anime.manga/dictionary/

I'm using a mix of audio cds and books, so far I've been using:

Subliminal Japanese (Book and CDs)
Japanese (Lonely Planet Phrasebook)
Audio CDs (I've waiting for them to arrive)
Internet Sites
and some audio CDs I've downloaded from the Internet

For the writing, I'm using:

Kanji De Manga (I've only got book 3, so I'm waiting for books 1 and 2 before I get really started)

I'll look into that book you mentioned, cheers for that Very Happy

I'll probably look into classes later but not at the moment, hasn't been long since I finished the last part-time course I was on.

Ok, that phrase translates to something like "Can anybody read this". Its actually quite a complicated sentence so didn't really expect you to get it.

Have to say I think you're using the wrong books. For a start forget about the Kanji De manga until you've learned Hiragana and Katana. Its definitely a case of learning to run before walk there. Also I wouldn't try learning Japanese from a phrase book. The ones I've seen have some distinctly odd translations and don't really explain the sentence structure

I've found this site VERY good for practising vocabulary
http://www.kantango.com/

There's also a list of handy language sites on this page
http://www.japane.net/jlinks.php#Lang_Japanese

I'd give the one on Japanese Grammar a read.

and some audio CDs I've downloaded from the Internet

Depends which one you're talking about.

The one in the big brother house I believe came out and admitted he was.

I however am definitely straight. No confusion, no swinging from one side of the fence to the other, no doubts, I know where I stand and am happy that way. Hope that clears this whole thing up.

I'm not too keen on his acting. He's much better at stand-up.

You ever seen him live on stage?

Twice (stand-up, not acting). Although one was at Newcastle Arena, terrible venue for comedy, and we were right at the back.
