Stardust is the story of Tristan Thorne a very ordinary boy on the edge of manhood who works in the very ordinary grocer’s shop in the very ordinary English village of Wall. Tristan is in love with Victoria Forrester , the prettiest (and most spoiled) girl in the village, and to win her hand in marriage he rashly promises to venture into Faerie and bring her back the shooting star that they watch fall one evening. Crossing into the magical kingdom of Stormhold, Tristan is surprised to discover that, rather than a lump of rock, his star is an irritable young woman called Yvaine , whose leg was injured when she fell. Despite her protests, Tristan sets out to bring her back to Victoria; he soon finds himself cast in the role of protector, for Yvaine is in terrible danger: the heart of a star brings eternal life and youth to the eater, and is sought by Lamia , one of a trio of powerful witches, as well as the Princes of Stormhold, who seek to come into their inheritance.
All this is fine and it sounds a great movie. But! for the first half of the movie I found it didn't really hold my interest and I found myself drifting away at times(BUT!) and this is a big but and it makes the film worth going to see... the second half when Robert De Niro enters, the story and pace of the movie change for the best. De Niro is fantastic and I won't spoil anything cos they never gave anything away on any program about his character, so....from that moment on the entire feel of the movie changes and the pace just picks up 10 fold and I didn't feel let down.
If the whole film had been as good all the way through I would have given it 4/5 but I'll give the first half 2/5 then the second half 4/5.
