The Curious Tale of Benjamin Button

Earlier this week, I made a point about how Slumdog Millionaire was an example of how to do a high-concept movie very well.  Ironic that just two days later, I should see an example of the opposite.

The concept of this film is that Benjamin Button is born old and wrinkly, and grows younger.  As he goes through his childhood, he becomes less decrepit, reaching his prime in his mid-forties and dying as a baby.

An interesting concept, certainly.  But not weel handled in a film that goes on for far too long.  It feels a little like Big Fish, but without Burton's stylishness, and a little like Forrest Gump, but without the character.  Cate Blanchett is at least excellent, playing the love interest who ages normally, but in the opposite way to Brad Pitt's Button.

Have to say I totally agree with you.

The film looks fantastic and the visuals are top notch, as is everything else.
BUT !! and it's a big but, it's one of the most depressing films I've seen, blinking kept me awake it did, thinking about my own mortality, mostly cos the story spends 80%of the time in a bloody old folks home, and then even youth didn't save him from senility.

So much more, I enjoyed Hulk Vs Thor and Hulk Vs Wolverine animation, nowt wrong with a feel good movie now and again.  Very Happy
