Which novel would you like to turn into a movie and why?Got the idea for this from the other thread I started about books.
If you were a movie producer and had the resources to make any movie you wanted as long as i t was based on a novel which one would you choose?
Mine would be the Dragonlance Chronicels. Its technically a trilogy but needs to be read as a whole to fully appreciate it. Its got the scope, and depth to be made into and epic movie which could easily match or surpas Lord of the Rings in my opinion. Its also got some fantastic characters who would become instantly memorable if portrayed correctly.

I would love to see Roald Dahl's "Charlie and the Great Glass Elevator" made as I was very happy with Tim Burtons interpretation of "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" and it proved that it is now possible to make some movies close to what there writers envisioned.
"Charlie and the Great Glass Elevator" has some amazing moments in the book that could only now be interpreted correctly.
One of my favourite bits is when the Grand parents takes a pill that makes them so young they go to where you go before you are born and Charlie and Mr Wonka travel in the Great Glass Elevator to where they are to bring them back, very creepy. There is also a whole host of other fantastic things all different to the first story
Love someone to make it, Tim Burton would be good

Already DEAD by Charlie HUSTON
A very interesting book set in Manhattan, Manhattan is crawling with Vampyres. PI Joe Pitt is one of them, and he’s not happy about it. Yeah, he’s tough as nails and hard to kill. But spending his nights trying to score a pint of blood to feed the Vyrus that’s eating at him isn’t his idea of a good time. Going his own way, refusing to ally with the Clans that run the undead underside of Manhattan–it ain’t easy. It’s worse once he gets mixed up with the Coalition–the city’s most powerful Vampyre Clan–and finds himself searching for a poor little rich girl who’s gone missing in Alphabet City.
As you can tell I pasted most of the info but it is a very good book and I think it will make a good movie.

Jonny,
Have you read any Anita Blake Vampire Hunter books by Laurell K Hamilton? From the description of your recomendation I think you'd like it. The first 8 books are excellent. Its set in current day earth where vampires, warewolves and all manner of supernatural creatures co-exist with the general population and have all the rights that any normal person has. So you can't just go into the vamp's lair and stake him, you have to get a court order first.
Anita Blake's day job is raising the dead for all maner of reasons, everything from sorting out the details in a will to finding out the idenity of murders. However she is also on retainer to the local PD as a specialist in supernatural crime and a licenced vampire hunter.
I personally think the books would make an excellent TV series. The main character developes really well over the series of novels. Also the vamps and lycanthropes have a really intricate well thought out society and structure which leads to some interesting situations.
Unfortunately after the 9th book the auther seems to get a bit over obsessed with the sexual aspects of the whole vampire thing and the books turn into supernatural porn novels. I don't mind the sex being there but I prefer my books with a least a bit of a story.

I'm adding all of these books to my list of what I should read, some of them sound very similar to a movie I saw a few years ago called "THE BREED" starring Adrian Paul.
I liked it and if the books Jonny & H have mentioned have the same elements as that movie did, I think I will enjoy them

I'd like to see "Dominatrix", the memoirs of Mistress Chloe, turned into a film. Alyson Hannigan playing the title character.
If we're talking novels, though, Jeff Noon's Vurt. A completely weird but brilliant cyberpunkish novel. With Alyson Hannigan playing Desdemona.
However, the one book that's had plenty of adaptations but none that were faithful enough to the book for my liking, is Dracula. With Alyson Hannigan playing Mina Murray, Christina Ricci as Lucy Westenra, Johnny Depp as Jonathan Harker and Christopher Lee as Dracula himself - no-one else would be fit for the part.

Carl...... don't worry I'm not easily shocked the other photograph is fine, it's just art
I've given it great thought and I came up with a large list and then oddbodd posted his choice and you, your answer so in for a penny....
A book I think would shock, and is certainly not for the easily offended is, "The Captains Slave" it's a very atmospheric and exhilarating book to read, yes very risky and erotic but if you want to be affected by a piece of literature and feel it would make a interesting movie and still be as effective, that's one of my first choices. I'll probably want to post some more when I've given it some thought.

Interesting choice of book there Sylvester.. you just keep proving how much of a dark horse you really are.
Never read the book myself but a quick google soon confirmed my suspicions regarding it content. Looks very interesting, think I'll be adding that to my reading list, possibly near the top.
So tell us Sylvester, how exactly did reading this book affect you ??
BTW Carl, great pictures, seen that one in the locker room before (I think I might even have the magazine it was in) the one you put the link in for was tremedous though. Would have prefered it if you'd linked direct to the original though. would have saved me a bit of digging to try and find the site you got it from. Some more nice pics on there. VERY interesting one of Buffy and Willow

PC out of action for a couple of days and when I return to the various happenings on the forum, as usual Jonny has put his foot in it and embarrassed himself again nothing changes
I've had a little looksy at the various posts on this segment and you call me a dark horse I think everyone in someway has been harbouring their inner inhibitions
So to my post, in keeping with the theme In a way I should have posted this in the sequels and remakes I was thinking of movies that should be made again and one of them is the "Story Of O" I’ve watched it several times over the last few years and I’ve realised how dated it's become, if you've seen the movie you'll know what I'm talking about, the content of the movie still works for me but a updated version might be closer to the book
|
hisomuhito
|
Yeah you can always count on Jonny to put his foot (or other bodily appendage) in it. I do wonder if he had a look further down that wiki page at the section on "a**l bleaching".. Now I just find that disturbing...
Who's been harbouring their inner inhibitions! I don't think I've harboured anything.. I've just let it all gush out..
Ok, I'll fess up, I am harbouring stuff but I don't want to scare everyone.
Its starting to look like I might have already scared Piper off... Not that I miss her... much..
Know what you mean about the Story of O, saw it a few years back it was dated then. Am actually reading the book at the moment and can't help but imagine it like a movie anyway. Is a very interesting book. Very emotive I've found, and thats from a blokes perspective, I wouldn't like to guess how it makes a woman feel.
Hey Carl, why do you do this as your next project! ? I'll help !
|
oddbodd
|
Who says I've been harbouring my inhibitions? I never harbour them. I know at least one person signed up to this forum who can vouch for that. A good point about The Story of O, though. It could certainly do with updating. It would be interesting to see the public reaction to it, given that since the original film's release, BDSM has become more acceptable to the general public, though violence toward women has become more unacceptable. It would perhaps get the usual its-just-an-excuse-for-violent-porn reaction from the anti-art right wing lobby, and some whiney things about exploitation of women and glorification of violence from the miltant feminist quarter. However, I'd imagine that very few of the people who do make a reaction to the film, i.e. film critics and the like, regardless of how positive or negative they are toward it, would take the opportunity to research BDSM and the associated scene to ascertain if the film is any sort of true depiction of BDSM lifestyles. It may well be that women who are the submissive element of BDSM relationships welcome the film and its message - in such a case, why moan about it's impact? It would be an art film as opposed to a commercial film, and hence it would be aiming for expressionism over impressionism.
Wow, that was deep (as the actress said to the bishop).

Liz
|
| oddbodd wrote: | | Wow, that was deep (as the actress said to the bishop). |
It was deep, I think it hit a nerve...
I've seen the film The Story Of O' and did find it quite a movie solely directed for a male orientated audience. Where were the men that were getting their bottoms spanked probably behind the camera I'm not sure what the statistics are, but I bet there are a hell of a lot of Dominatrix women out there, most women are not submissive, thats what we've got men for. So I think the remake should have the roles reversed, how many of you men out there would sit and watch it then.
To H, I wouldn't mind reading the book, so would it be possible to borrow it when you've read it, I'm sure you have the means of getting it to me Once I've read it get ready for the remake and this time it won't be the men behind the camera
|
oddbodd
|
Liz, you're quite probably right about it being purely for a male audience. I think you're also right about their being more women who are dominant than submissive, from what I've seen of that cross-section of society. In that respect it would be interesting to see the roles reversed in a remake. Or why not mix and match?
Oddbodd.
|
Liz
|
Look oddbodd I never mix and match, I'm ALWAYS the one in control, if you speek out of turn like that again Mistress Liz will punish you.

Liz, don't you realise you've fallen into oddbod's cunning trap, he wants you to punish him! Who's in control now??
It wouldn't surprise me if the reason he posts a lot is because everytime he writes a new message he feels he must "Submit"
No problem about borrowing the book. I'm sure I can find a way to get it to you. I'll use pigeon post or something..
Have to admit I can't remember many details about the movie and how O was portrayed I just remember it looking very dated.
The book however I do find interesting as it gives an incite as O's thoughts and emotions and why she lets these things be done to her. Its not all about control, it might surprise you but a lot of it is actually about love.

Methinks she doth protest too much. Sounds like a classic case of outwardly dominant, but with a deep-seated desire to be submissive. Face it, love, you're in denial. And no silly jokes about Egyptian rivers please Nige, (or you, Philster).
|
Jonny
|
Egyptian jokes have I missed something
|
oddbodd
|
For the benefit of Jonny:
"In denial" is an example of one part of a homophone, due to it's similarity, in certain accents, to "In the Nile". The Nile is the world's longest river, beginning where the White Nile and Blue Nile meet in Central Africa. The delta of the River is situated in Northern Egypt, and due to the early civilisations that built up around the Nile in Egypt, the river has long been associated with that country. Nige and Philster are both friends of mine who are notorious for making obvious inane jokes at every opportunity. Especially Philster. I was merely anticipating possible "humorous" retorts to my "In denial" comment - something like "What's he doing in Egypt, then?"
And before you ask, a homophone is a set of words that sound the same but have different meanings. It is not, as I suspect you might think, a chat-line for like-minded gentlemen.
Cheers,
Oddbodd.

I like to pull a lot of things on Christmas day, especially things that go off with a bang!
I also can't help squeezing and poking at my presents trying to feel whats inside before slowly removing the wrapping. Half the fun is trying to work out what wonders are waiting for me on the inside.

So opening them quickly never crosses your mind I’m usually very excited on Christmas morning and I just can’t wait to rip off the wrapping and get stuck in.

To H, I wouldn't mind reading the book, so would it be possible to borrow it when you've read it, I'm sure you have the means of getting it to me Once I've read it get ready for the remake and this time it won't be the men behind the camera |
Liz, Just wanted to let you know I've finished the book and its is very good. Might surprise you to learn that it was written by a woman. I'll see what I can do about getting it to you. I'm sure I can find a pigeon that knows how to get to you |
True to his word, hisomuhito personally hand delivered "The Story Of O" to me in my bedroom last night.
Ask him to deny it

Tis true, I cannot deny it. And when I left the room she had a big smile on her face too
I just couldn't catch the pigeon so I gave up.

I didn't say it never crosses my mind. I just find I get more pleasure if I play beFore getting stuck in. Its just more satisfying that way
Of course I do sometimes get overwhelmed with excitement just from seeing the wrapping and become a slave to my urges. That is also satsifying in a different way.

Anyone who's seen Carry on Screaming knows that Oddbodd is not bound by the phases of the moon. I'm no ordinary werewolf. I'm wolf man all month round.

First of all, you mentioned Carry On Screaming and that got me thinking
You are not oddbodd, you are in fact oddbodd Junior and to add to your deception you were cloned from a misshapen finger that dropped off oddbodd Senior... I've done my research.
But I was wondering, if his finger could drop off so easily, what's stopping other bits of you falling off could be very embarrassing, only consolation would be if I passed an electric current through the bit that dropped off we would have oddbodd number three, that gets the imagination going.

And I'm sure oddbod number three would have a permanent smile on his face too!

If we cloned oddbodd junior again, would the third one like pizza

Arrh, stop picking on oddbodd even though it does look like a spoon

There's nothing wrong with being a Junior oddbodd, for one, maybe there's a few things I can teach you
I also agree with Liz, we love your avatar, don't change it, just because nige said you've got a spoon on your ear, you know what they say, a spoon full of sugar

Tut tut tut Sylvester, I can't believe you put any stock in what Oddbodd has been saying. I've got action a plenty when its called for. Is there anything you'd like me to hand deliver to your bedroom?

You'll probably want to steer clear of Uri Geller though Oddbodd, he might try and bend your head

Looks like Oddbodd Junior's been growing up...

I'd like to thank everyone for the fantastic support for my avatar - particularly Jonny, who supports it even though I taunt him so much.
