I'm so pleased Aardman are striking back, they took a battering over the last few years by falling for the oldest trick in the book.
If you are a film maker, animator or writer and you do something successful and it could be contrived as “in competition” with another film company's future plans and releases (I will say no names) the scam goes as follows.....
You offer the company and in this case it was Aardman a fantastic deal “ a three film deal” and they make the first one, which in this case was “Chicken Run” and it goes very smooth (false sense of security). Aardman feel very comfortable and pardon the pun decide to put all their eggs into one basket start the next project, “Tortoise Vs Hare” they also start pre production on the third project. They hire all the people necessary, including someone I know and they all work their butts off for 2 years. Then just before the movie is to be released the partner company turn around and say” this is not working, start all over again, not yet but when we have worked out what we think you should do to it”. Aardman have to sit around in limbo waiting for the response which is pre ordained to take a long time.
It's the oldest trick in the book, take care not fall for it cos just because a company take a big interest, it's not always in your benefit.
Lucky Aardman have some reliable characters like Wallace and Gromit and they have always ticked over and have the strength to come through a huge obstacle.
So Aardman doing what they are doing and making a CGI movie is in someway as you put it, striking back and they will not be stung twice.
