The Day the Earth Stood Still
One classic movie I can watch and watch over and over again is "The Day the Earth Stood Still" it has some really strong messages that were as important back then, as they are now.
The idea of this intergalactic policeman wandering the universe with his unstoppable robot Gort who has the power to destroy every living thing on the planet if ordered to and if not ordered if his master is threatened ....... Cool
It'll not be long before they remake it but will they be able to capture that mood and feeling that the original has.
A Classic indeed - though pure fantasy in terms of how well Klaatu is treated by the American government
A bit of trivia from the Useless Information Depository that is my head:
- Patricia Neal, who played the female lead, hails from Owensboro, Kentucky, where a certain Johnny Depp was born. She was married to author Roald Dahl, who of course created Johnny's character Willy Wonka.
- This film is the first one mentioned in the opening song from The Rocky Horror Picture Show. (Michael Rennie was ill The Day The Earth Stood Still/And he told us where to stand).
- The director, Robert Wise, also directed The Sound of Music, for which he won the 1965 Best Director Oscar.
Cheers,
